I'm In!

To all who haven’t heard the news, I’ve arrived safe and sound in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
The fantastic Pete and Liz (who work with SIL) picked me up and ran me around for the first afternoon getting accommodation, food, and stuff sorted – they even cooked me dinner! So a big thumbs up to them…

This is Day 3, and I’ve spent the time since setting up phones, PO Boxes, and beginning to get residency and bank accounts underway. I’ve also been trying to get my head around Bislama as quickly as possible, so I’ve spent some time hanging around the markets and getting laughed at by the old people. I managed to set up my PO Box entirely in shonky Bislama though!

My real work begins this Friday when I meet with the student leaders at USP, so please be praying for that meeting as we plan the year and I figure out exactly what my job entails!

My current contact details are:

Mobile (expensive to call, cheap to text): +00678 67011

Post: PO Box 3536, Port Vila, Vanuatu, South Pacific

P.S. Well done for picking up enough language to set up your post box.

P.P.S. That’s a very short mobile phone number!

Trying to get the Flickr thing working for J.

It is a short mobile – but txting works! Calls are expensive though… J., you have to get broadband access for Skype!

Yeah, I’ll have to wait til I crash SIL again to fix the photo thing…internet cafe is too pricey…
I can get on Skype there too I’m told, but it’s not really ‘broadband’ as we know it, so it’ll be a bit jumpy and terminal if I use my webcam…

PS Short mobile numbers are da bomb…

Hooray! Glad you’re in safe. People still laughing at you, huh! Some people have it and some people don’t I guess!
