V-Land Christianity

I thought I’d post some examples of the more…novel…end of Christianity you get here in Vila.
This comes from one of the recently-retired pastors of one of the biggest congregations in Vanuatu (of one of the largest denominations).
This made me want to laugh…and then cry…and then laugh again. The back of the flyer is especially worth a read.

I apologise for the low quality – I’m reduced to taking photos of stuff I want to digitise!

It’s so sad that there is the pubilc forum to express the Christian faith, and yet they get it so wrong. It’s heartbreaking to think how many people will read those documents and believe that the bible is not the word of God or think that being a Christian is all about being rich… They need to look at the bigger picture & gain an understanding of biblical theology!

I didn’t actually think the first one was that bad. He built up an ok argument using the bible in context on why we shouldn’t whip our children. All he needed to do was substitute “Jesus contradicts the OT” with “Jesus fulfils the OT” and he’d be set!

The second one on the other hand…

The first one is ‘not that bad’? Seriously?

Her argument rests on the preposition that the newer parts of the Bible contradict the older parts, making some parts ‘the Word of God for us today’ and some parts now. You can’t be revisionist about the Bible – it begs the question of which bits contradict each other and how we decide what is ‘for us today’ and what isn’t.
