  • Resurrection and Moral Order
Preparing to look at ethics with my science and nursing (SaN) student leaders in July, as well as to stretch my underdeveloped philosophical muscles, been slogging through this. I wish I was sufficiently intelligent to understand half of what O’Donovan says, but the minute fraction I do understand has been great. Love his chapter on ‘eschatology and history’.
  • A Conversation Waiting to Begin
Another (substantially shorter) O’Donovan. Focussed mainly upon the blow-up in the Anglican Communion over the ordination etc. of active homosexuals. While very sensitively challenging people to deeper thought on this issue, also some golden snippets of ethical theology thrown in every one of the chapters.
  • The Synoptic Problem
Goodacre’s slim introduction to how to handle the three synoptic Gospels was stumbled upon in the MTC library (so far the best thing about studying there, classes are good, library is fantastic!). A wavering synthesist, I’m trying to wrap my head around how to teach the Gospels on their own terms when they say different things. Not finished this one yet.
  • Resurrection of the Son of God
Having been challenged substantially in my understanding of the resurrection in JWW’s Doctrine class, decided to go to the phonebook-like tome dedicated to proving the physicality of the resurrection.
  • It’s all in how you tell it
A strange little book by Haddon Robinson on preaching in the first-person. Felt gimmicky.
  • Preaching Christ Today
Another little collection of lectures by T.F. Torrance arguing for preaching of a ‘scientific theology’ (read anything by Torrance and he’s bound to mention this) when we preach the gospel. I like Torrance, but I think he pins waaaaay too much on Einstein’s slightly philosophical take on time in quantum mechanics.

Music

  • The Bends
I’m on a massive Radiohead trip at the moment.
  • Hail to the Thief
    Seriously. Massive
  • Sound of Silver
Ooo, and some slightly older LCD Soundsystem
